how cute

how to

Supplies:

  • cones – styrofoam or cardboard
  • socks (tall/knee high) – each cone needs 2 individual socks (different colors preferable – 1 for the body/base & 1 for the hat)
  • fluffy material – for beard (1/2 yard makes 10-15 gnomes approx.)
  • wooden ball – for nose
  • embellishments – felt hearts, ribbon, candy, notes, etc.
  • hot glue gun/sticks
  • scissors or fabric cutter wheel (rotary cutter)

Instructions:

  • Base/Body: Cut foot, including heel, off of the base/body sock that will be used for the body of the gnome. You should end up with a tube (only the calf part of the sock).
  • Put this on the base of the cone with what would be the top of the sock on the very bottom of the cone. Make sure the gnome can sit flat. Tip: pull sock just over the edge of the base. Some cone will show in the middle of the base and that’s okay. **alternately, you can cut strips into the sock all the way to the heel and cut the toe of the sock off. You’ll eventually pull this up through the hat for more pom pom fullness & fun on the hat.
  • Beard: Cut a triangle out of the fluffy material. Tip: I cut squares and cut them in half. Tip: Make sure your hat sock is long enough to reach down and cover up the top of the beard. Adjust height of beard as needed.
  • Wrap the triangle around the base of the gnome and hot glue together in the back.
  • Nose: Hot glue the wooden ball nose in place.
  • Hat: Cut strips in the sock to the heel then place sock (toe up) over the cone to cover up the top of the beard. Tie the strips together into a top knot. They may hang to one side, hang evenly on both sides, tie in a bow, etc. There are no rules here. **alternately, you may leave the sock uncut. Place the heel toward the back of the gnome at the very tip of the cone and hot glue a pom pom or other embellishment to the toe.
  • Embellishments: Hot glue any cute embellishments to the gnome. We tried cute blush cheeks with hearts, heart hat decorations & valentines day candy.
  • Give the gift of gnomes! There’s gnome better gift than a gift from the heart that’s gnomemade.
